If you want to stay connected but don't want to go through the
hassle and expense of installing satellite dishes, the next best
thing is Ositech's (www.ositech.com) CellFlex,
which uses your dual-mode cellular phone and a
wireless
Internet access card for your laptop to provide 56K (dial-up
speed) Internet access from anywhere you have cell service. The
benefit of CellFlex,
aside from utilizing your existing cell phone (it works with both
Motorola and Nokia phones) and laptop (CellFlex
doesn't officially support Macs, but, unofficially, it does work),
CellFlex
works in your auto, RV or campsite as well as onboard, giving you
that much more flexibility and mobility. Again, hooking up the ol'
laptop and banging out e-mails may not sound like the relaxing
boating experience you're after, but if you can have your calls
forwarded to your cell and answer your e-mails from your boat,
who's to know where you're working? Or even if you're fishing
while you work? Or if you're working from a beach your reached via
PWC?
