Ositech Jack of Diamonds Best PC Card Modem/Network Combination
The Computer Paper (Ontario Edition)

Guelph, Ontario-based Ositech's
Jack of Diamonds
PCMCIA combo card is a high-end multifunction communication device offering both Ethernet and 28,800 bps connectivity. When we talked to a
Jack of Diamonds
user, Mr. Roy Alexander, Network Programmer-Analyst for McDonald Restaurants of Canada, he recommended the product highly. Mr. Alexander has tested several PCMCIA multifunction cards and, based on his experiences, he rated the Ositech Jack of Diamonds highly.
Unlike some other PCMCIA cards whose fragile connectors are a potential weak spot, the
Jack of Diamonds
features a very sturdy molded plastic connection on the card. The Ethernet portion of the
Jack of Diamonds
is particularly well implemented, with support for a wider range of protocols than most other cards. This card intelligently senses if you have a landline or cellular connection, and uses Rockwell's EC protocol to help ensure that cellular connections are reliable.
In mobile telecommunications, the many possible combinations and permutations of connectivity options often demand that a notebook's modem must figuratively do backflips to make a good connection with every call. In this regard, the
Jack of Diamonds
is a star athlete. This card's price is at the high end of the PCMCIA spectrum, but professionals looking for near perfection will currently find no substitute. Ositech's strong suit is first rate engineering, which keeps it on the leading edge of the modem field.
New products, including the King and Queen of Diamonds cards, are expected to be announced shortly. The
Jack of Diamonds, coupled with Ositech's excellent support, is a real ace in the hole for mission critical mobile communications.
By all accounts the Ositech leaves the competition in the dust. You will not
regret spending the extra money to have on of these for your deck. Look for the 10, Queen, King, and Ace to appear soon. Ositech is a private Canadian company: they do us proud, here, here.
