What
does DPI offer over my current PC Card modem?
Ositech’s DPI technology is a complete connectivity
solution! Like your current modem, you can connect DPI modems to
analog phones. Most of the time you only have access to digital
(PBX) phones (used in offices), which use a higher current than
analog phones, and thus prevent you from making modem connections.
Moreover, these higher currents can permanently damage your
current modem.
With DPI, you are able to make fast, easy and reliable modem
connections through digital (PBX) phones.
Is DPI the
same as digital line protection?
No. DPI moves a step beyond simply protecting your modem.
If you plug your modem into a digital wall socket, your modem will
not be damaged. All Ositech modems come with Digital Line
Protector ensuring your modem is never the victim of high current
digital lines.
DPI moves a step beyond allowing fast and easy connections through
the handset of digital phone systems.
Is
DPI the same as external digital phone adapters?
Although external digital phone adapters provide the
same access to digital phone systems, Ositech’s DPI solution is
easier to use and less expensive. External digital adapters retail
for approximately $150 US and require external AC power. DPI
technology is built into Ositech modems and thus requires no
additional power or accessories.
Can
DPI modems connect to both analog and digital phones?
Yes! Ositech DPI modems can send data through analog
phones, like the phones in your home, and through digital (PBX)
phone systems, like the phones in your office.
What
speed of connection can I expect when making a DPI connection?
DPI connection speeds are restricted to V.34 (33.6Kbps)
because digital (PBX) phone systems include an analog to digital
data conversion step that makes 56K connections impossible.
Typical connection rates will range between 19.2Kbps and 28.8Kbps.
Connections made in analog mode will result in 56K connections
using either the V.90 or K56Flex protocols.
Can
I use DPI overseas?
Since Ositech DPI modems use an RJ-9 connector - the
most universal telephone connector - you can make DPI connections
worldwide. With DPI, there is no need to carry numerous (and
expensive) phone adapters. Unlike Ositech DPI modems, external
digital phone adapters do not use RJ-9 connectors. This means
outside of North America, you also need an extensive collection of
telephone adapters for Europe and the Pacific Rim. Since external
digital phone adapters require a power source, you also need
numerous power plug adapters.
