Ositech Ships V.34 28.8 Multifunction PC Card

Jack of Diamonds 28.8 Ethernet + Modem Combo Card Also Features Windows 95/NT Drivers And New Cellular Protocol For Faster Performance

Guelph, Ontario
Ositech Communications Inc. is shipping the V.34 Jack of Diamonds, a state-of-the-art multifunction PC card that combines a high performance Ethernet network adapter and a V.34 28.8 cellular data/fax modem onto a single Type II PC card. The new 28.8 high-speed version promises to slash the cost of updating files, sending E-mail, using V.34 on-line services and performing other tasks common to road warriors.

In addition, the Jack of Diamonds is the first card of its kind to ship with Windows 95 drivers, offering increased network and modem performance because of Windows 95's new 32-bit operating environment.

The card presently supports the MNP 10 protocol for cellular data transmission, and in September, the card will ship with MNP 10EC. This new protocol maximizes throughput while providing improved transmission reliability. MNP10-EC combines cellular-specific signal-processing technology from
Rockwell Telecommunications with an enhanced error correction protocol to overcome many of the signal distortions that have interfered with data-over-cellular transmissions in the past.

Hassle-Free Cellular Communications

The Jack of Diamonds is the only multifunction PC card that offers a low-cost cellular upgrade package ($99 US) that provides Direct Connect capabilities to many popular cellular phones, including Motorola, Mitsubishi and AT&T. This eliminates the need to purchase acoustic couplers or intermediate hardware boxes to achieve cellular data or fax connections while on the road. Ositech has incorporated this hardware into the PC card--making it, in effect, the world's only triple function PC card. Users can now simply and directly connect to the data port of cellular phones with just one cable.

In addition, Ositech's "intelligent cellular media detection" enables cellular users to avoid a step required by every other manufacturer of cellular interfaces: the need to enter a special cellular initialization string of 15-30 cryptic symbols each time the phone is used. With the Jack of Diamonds, this cryptic string needs to be entered only once. After that, the Jack of Diamonds will detect a standard or cellular connection and delete or insert the appropriate string AUTOMATICALLY. MIS managers can set up the user with the appropriate initial string, then the Jack of Diamonds will transparently configure itself for the proper environment.

Drivers For All Environments

The Jack of Diamonds offers the industry's most comprehensive driver support for multifunction PC cards. In addition to Windows 95 drivers, the card also ships with DOS, Windows, Windows NT, Unix and OS/2 drivers. It can also be used with ALL Card and Socket Services. This means that the Jack of Diamonds will accommodate the customer's computing environment, and even other PC card's requirements, so that customers will not have to restructure their notebook to use Ositech's PC card.

High Performance Ethernet Network Interface

The Ethernet network interface provided supports two configurations: direct cable connection for 10baseT only or use of a separate Media Access Unit for both 10baseT or 10base2. Intelligent Media Detection automatically senses the wiring being used and configures the card for the connected wiring. Network operating systems supported include Netware by Novell, Lan Manager by Microsoft, Lan Server by IBM, Banyan Vines and others.

Warranty, Support, Compatibility, Pricing

The Jack of Diamonds comes with a 30-day money-back satisfaction guarantee, a full five-year warranty, access to a 24-hour BBS and comprehensive free technical support and service using Ositech's toll-free hotline. It is compatible with all computers incorporating the PCMCIA standard and slots.

The V.34 Jack of Diamonds with a 28.8 kbps modem is available at a suggested retail price of $549. A 14.4 kbps version is available at a suggested retail price of $369.
