Ositech Announces the Queen of Diamonds Trumpcard
All-In-One Cellular Modem & Stereo Audio PCMCIA Card Permits Simultaneous Modem & Audio Operation For Mobile Computing
Guelph, Ontario
Ositech Communications Inc., announces the Queen of Diamonds, a high-performance multifunction PCMCIA card that combines both a high-speed direct cellular data/fax and high-fidelity audio capabilities into a single Type II PCMCIA card.
The Queen of Diamonds is the third member of Ositech's series of
Trumpcards, combination PCMCIA cards designed to enhance the performance of portable computers by making possible to perform multiple business functions in the limited PCMCIA slot space available in portable PCs.
In addition, the Queen of Diamonds permits laptop owners to use audio applications and modem operations simultaneously without switching PCMCIA cards. It also features separate cable connections for the audio and modem applications as well as direct cable connections to either the telephone network or popular cellular phones, eliminating the need for bulky interface modules.
The new card is available in two models: one with a 14.4k bps modem and stereo audio, or with a top-speed 28.8k bps modem and stereo audio.
Both the 14.4k bps and the V.34 28.8k bps versions permit laptop owners to send and receive information quickly and easily. With the use of data compression, effective data throughput can reach 115.2k bps. Both versions also offer a Windows-friendly UART 16550 hardware design that incorporates a communication controller with a 16-byte FIFO buffer, eliminating the danger of data loss during high-speed fax or data communication. For cellular communications, use of the Rockwell MNP10-EC protocol ensures reliable error-free data transfers. Direct cable connections are available to a variety of
popular cellular phones.
Audio Capabilities
The Queen of Diamonds' stereo sound supplies the components required for portables to reproduce high-quality sound, enabling laptop owners to incorporate sound in their documents, training seminars and business presentations. It also includes CD quality playback/recording for the audiophile, as well as 16-bit
stereo recording and playback, Adlib-compatible 20-voice FM synthesizer, and advanced MIDI playback, as well as telephone line interface capability for hands-free phone conversation and are compatible with Microsoft's Windows Sound System software.
Advanced Power Management and PCMCIA Aware Operation
To extend the working time of the laptop's battery, the Queen of Diamonds' intelligent power management can detect and shut off power to modem portions of the card not in use. Power to these portions can be restored under software control when required. The
PCMCIA-aware software can adapt to the least amount of resources available in terms of card and socket services for low memory overhead. The low-power design also eliminates the need for an external power supply.
Pricing Suggested retail price for the 14.4 kbps modem with stereo audio is $649 US; the 28.8 kbps modem with stereo audio is $849 US. Prices include headphones and a hands-free microphone software.
Warranty, Support and Compatibility
The Queen of Diamonds is backed by a 30-day money-back satisfaction guarantee, a five-year warranty and comprehensive service and support, including a 24-hour BBS and toll-free hotline (800/563-2386). The Queen of Diamonds is compatible with all major notebooks incorporating the PCMCIA standard.
The Trumpcard Series
Ositech's Trumpcard family of multifunction PCMCIA cards is designed to improve the functionality and productivity of mobile computing by overcoming the one-or
two-PCMCIA slot limitation of most portable PCs. Each Trumpcard product merges two or more major business functions onto a single PCMCIA card.
The series debuted in 1994 with the Jack of Diamonds, which combined a high-performance Ethernet network adapter with a high-speed cellular data/fax modem. The King of Diamonds, an Ethernet and audio card, is the second card in the series.
Ositech is a leader in the design and development of innovative connectivity solutions for mobile computers. The company pioneered the industry's first all internal high-performance network and modem multifunction adapters in 1992 for use in laptops. Ositech's current hassle-free connectivity products are sold in over 26 countries worldwide.
