Ositech Communications Inc. is pleased to announce that Ziff-Davis’ PC Computing Magazine has named two Ositech PC Cards as finalists in their MVP Award competition. Ositech PC Cards are finalists in two categories, the Jack of Spades TRUMPCARD in the PC Card Modem category, and the Seven of Spades TRUMPCARD in the PC Card Network Adapter category.

The annual MVP awards recognize products PC Computing’s editors nominate as the most outstanding in their respective categories, based upon criteria of usability, innovation, performance, technology and value. 1998 marks the MVP awards’ tenth anniversary of the awards, which have become a significant part of what has made the magazine one of the most respected publications in the industry.

Ositech’s Jack of Spades has been nominated as one of three finalists in the PC Card Modem category. The Jack of Spades represents the most advanced speeds available to modem and Ethernet users, combined into a single multifunction PC Card. Ositech led the industry in shipping the first PC Card of this type in the world. The Jack of Spades offers not only the fastest speeds available, but also features Ositech’s patented Digital Phone Interface (DPI) technology, which allows the modem portion of the PC Card to connect through all digital (PBX) phones in addition to making the traditional cellular and analog connections.

Mobile computer users often face the difficulties presented by the digital (PBX) phone systems found in business environments. These phone systems operate on a higher current than do analog phones, and that current can damage modems beyond repair. To address this problem, many users have invested in PC Cards with some form of digital line protection to shield their modems from damage should users accidentally connect them to digital (PBX) jacks. While this feature protects modems from damage, it does not solve the fundamental problem posed by digital (PBX) systems: mobile users cannot use these lines to connect to the Internet or download email. With the Jack of Spades’ DPI technology, users can connect easily using just the PC Card and cable through any phone, anywhere - from New York to Munich to Peking. This versatile technology means users can leave international adapters at home, and travel light.

Ositech’s second MVP award finalist is the Seven of Spades TRUMPCARD, in the PC Card Network Adapter category. This CardBus (32 bit) 10/100 Networking PC Card is geared to the mobile user who has invested in the new CardBus notebook technology, but needs the flexibility to move between 10Mbps and 100Mbps networks. The Seven of Spades is the fastest CardBus 10/100 Networking PC Card available is leading the way for mobile users who travel between networks.

The Seven of Spades offers additional features, including Ositech’s EtherBoost technology, which begins processing data packets before they are received in their entirety, ultimately making users more productive. The Seven of Spades also includes Ositech’s Advanced Power Management feature, which powers down the PC Card when it is not in use, thereby saving users valuable laptop battery life.

Ositech’s president, Tahir Akram, is pleased with PC Computing’s choices, saying, "The PC Card market is growing rapidly as mobile users demand more and more flexibility from their laptops. Ositech strives to remain on the leading edge of the industry, and consistently provides our customers with the most innovative technologies in the industry. The growth in our customer base, in addition to the significant attention our products receive in the industry press are both indications that mobile users recognize quality and leadership."

PC Computing’s award winners will be announced at the magazine’s awards gala at Comdex in Las Vegas in November, 1998. If you would like complete product and sales information on Ositech’s Jack of Spades and Seven of Spades PC Cards, please visit Ositech’s website at www.ositech.com.
